Environment

Sustainability principles are central to Mount Isa Airport’s business strategy. We adopt a triple bottom line approach to all our activities, balancing financial results with our hands-on community and environmental involvement. Mount Isa Airport’s environmental objective is to maintain community and government confidence in our ability to manage and grow our operations by demonstrating a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship. It is our policy to assure the environmental integrity of our operations and facilities at all times and at all places.

Mount Isa Airport will develop and operate the airport in an environmentally responsible and ecologically sustainable manner and address community standards and needs.

The Airport has established initiatives to ensure environmental sustainability:

  • A significant focus on sustainability across all departments.
  • Ongoing bird and wildlife management strategy.
  • The establishment of a Construction Environment Management Plan (CEMP) for all projects.
  • Monitoring programs for surface and ground water quality; aquatic ecological systems; significant flora/fauna; and natural resource consumption.
  • Mount Isa Airport will develop and operate the airport in an environmentally responsible and ecologically sustainable manner and address community standards and needs. .

Our parent company Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) has a holistic approach to environmental sustainability. We want to ensure our business efficiency meets our visitor and community expectations and that, where practical, our environmental management practices go beyond legislative compliance. QAL has embarked on a program of addressing the twin challenges of sustainability (responding to global challenges such as climate change) and business efficiency (in light of rising costs and stakeholder expectations) across the Group.
